In the Kharaghoda and Zinjuwada deserts, about 1 million metric tons of salt has been extracted from the desert so far and the Kharaghoda has become barren. While there are still approximately 3 to 3.5 lakh metric tons of salt in the desert. In the wake of Hurricane 'Taute', the road to Zinjuwada desert, Kuda desert of Dhrangadhra and Kharaghoda desert has been blocked due to torrential rains.
Divyabhaskar's team got the crown of the damage done to the Agaryas, the human beings of Chhewada, who were cooking salt in the desert by sitting in a tractor in Chikkar water. In which rain water in more than 100 salt flats in Zinjuwada desert turned the water back on the day and night hard work of the Agaria families in which the Agaryas lost millions of rupees and the salt baking Agaryas were ruined.
Gujarat produces 70 to 75% of the total salt of the country. Of which 35% salt is harvested in Dhrangadhra Kuda desert including Kharaghoda and Zinjuwada desert of Surendranagar district And approximately 5000 Agaria families are involved in the production of salt baking.
These Agaryas work with their families, including their little ones, to build a canopy hut in the desert for eight months of the year in October each year, baking "white salt by black labor" day and night in the scorching heat and freezing cold. After the salt baked in the barren desert by the Agaryas is ready, from April 1 to June 10, salt traders pull salt from the desert with tools including JCBs and dumpers and bring it to Kharaghoda or Zinjuwada to make lined salt piles. Salt is then exported by traders all year round to the corners of the country by rail or by truck.
The life of the Agaryas, who made the food of the people of the country delicious with salt, has now become salty. The Kharaghoda and Zinjuwada deserts have produced an estimated 1.4 million metric tonnes of salt this year. Of this, about 1 million metric tonnes of salt has so far been stored in Kharaghoda and Zinjuwada. Following the 'Tau-Te' hurricane that hit Gujarat two days ago, all the Agarya families who were baking salt in the desert were first evacuated from the desert and taken to a safe place.
But after two days of torrential downpours in the desert following Hurricane "Tau-te", it was the turn of the Agaryas to weep with red water as the rainwater returned to the salt flats. The barren desert turned into a mini-ocean due to heavy rains, blocking access to the desert. Divyabhaskar's team visited the desert in a tractor in Chikkar water to get a glimpse of the damage done to the human beings of Chhewada.
Lakhs of rupees were lost to the Agaryas in Kuda and Zinjuwada in
which millions of rupees were lost to the Agaryas due to heavy rains in the Kuda desert of Dhrangadhra and in the desert. Chakuji Thakor, who cooks salt in the Kuda desert of Dhrangadhra, says that the government pays compensation to farmers after surveying the damage done to their crops in the event of any such natural calamity. Even though the last human being was challenged against such natural calamities, even to this day, the night pie has not been paid as compensation. The Agariya community, which is considered to be the last human being by the government, is always treated coldly. Later, while visiting the Zinjuwada desert, traders were also hit with a loss of millions of rupees along with the agaryas returning rainwater to more than 100 salt flats. The solar panels of the salt-baking agaryas in the desert were blown away, causing great damage to the agaryas.
In this regard, Bharatsinh Gambhirsinh Zala of Zinjuwada said that with the late start of the salt extraction season this year, more than 150 salt flats are still lying in the Zinjuwada desert. The Zinjuwada desert was turned into a mini ocean due to heavy rains following the 'Tau-te' hurricane in the Zinjuwada desert. And the salt industry in the desert has suffered a fatal blow as the waist of the salt industry, which was barely sitting amidst the chaos of the Corona, has suffered a massive loss.
While Dr. Ranjan Gohil, an assistant professor at Gujarat University in Mithaghoda village, who works for the Agaria community, says that Agaryas, who bake salt in the desert during the salt baking season, are ready to pay any insurance plan against natural calamities like unseasonal rains or hurricanes. Is. But no one listens to the Agaryas who are considered to be the last human beings and they do not have time to agitate. Gandhi shook the foundations of the British Sultanate with a pinch of salt. Today, the same salt is in search of Gandhi.
