Bharuch (formerly commonly known as Broach) in India, is a district in the southern part of the Gujarat peninsula on the west coast of state of Gujarat with a size and population comparable to that of Greater Boston. The Narmada River outlets into the Gulf of Khambat through its lands and that shipping artery gave inland access to the kingdoms and empires located in the central and northern parts of the sub-continent of India.
The city of Bharuch and its surrounds—today's district—has been settled far back into antiquity and was a major shipping building centre and sea port in the important pre-compass coastal trading routes to points West, perhaps as far back as the days of the Pharaohs, which utilised the regular and predictable Monsoon winds or galleys. Many goods from the Far East (the famed Spice and Silk trade) were trans-shipped there for the annual monsoon winds making it a terminus for several key land-sea trade routes and Bharuch was definitely known to the Greeks, the various Persian Empires and in the Roman Republic and Empire and other Western centres of civilisation right on through the end of the European Middle Ages.
With the advent of the Age of Discovery, the presence of deep draft sea going shipping it began a long slow decline in importance as it was a bit too far north to be convenient to shipping not confined to keeping within sight of shore.

Gandhinagar (About this soundpronunciation ) is the capital of the state of Gujarat in India. Gandhinagar is located approximately 23 km north of Ahmedabad, on the west central point of the Industrial corridor between Delhi, the political capital of India, and Mumbai, the financial capital of India.
Gandhinagar, Gujarat's new capital city, lies on the west bank of the Sabarmati River, about 545 km (338 miles) north of Mumbai, the financial capital of India and 901 km (560 miles) southwest of Delhi, the political capital.[4][better source needed] There is a provision of parks, extensive planting and a recreational area along the river giving the city a green garden-city atmosphere.[4][better source needed.
Gandhinagar has a tropical wet and dry climate with three main seasons: summer, monsoon and winter. The climate is generally dry and hot outside of the monsoon season. The weather is hot to severely hot from March to June when the maximum temperature stays in the range of 36 to 42 °C (97 to 108 °F), and the minimum in the range of 19 to 27 °C (66 to 81 °F). Jamnagar is a city in the state of Gujarat located in the Gulf of Kutch. One of the largest cities of the state, it is also the administrative headquarters of the Jamnagar district. It was once the capital of the former state of Nawanagar, which was founded in 1540 A.D. by Jam Raval. It is also known as the 'Oil City' due to the presence of two important oil refineries of India. Reliance Industries has established the largest oil refinery in the world here and Essar Oil Refinery is also located near Vadinar in Jamnagar. Before the advent of these oil refineries, the population of the city was primarily involved in the manufacturing of brass and hence, the city was known as the 'Brass City'.
The city was transformed into a developed state after the then ruler consulted Sir Edward Lutyens, who was the architect of New Delhi, to plan and modernise the city. The plans included changes in the infrastructure of the city with modern designs and construction of entrance gates, residential plots, gardens and parks.
The people of the city generally speak Gujarati; however, there is a section of population that speaks 'Kutchi' language. The major communities in the city are Ahirs, Jadejas, Bhnaushalis, Patels, Jains and Rajputs. There are many Hindu and Jain temples in the city that show that religion and religious beliefs hold significance for the people of Jamnagar.
The city is a popular tourist destination in Gujarat. The buildings in the city are fine examples of the Rajput style of architecture. The city is located at a shore of Dwarka, which is one of the important pilgrimages for Hindus. It is also considered to be a place where Lord Krishna used to live after he left Mathura. Although the city is moving towards modernisation and industrialization, it still holds the old-world charm.

Junagadh About this soundpronunciation is the headquarters of Junagadh district in the Indian state of Gujarat. Located at the foot of the Girnar hills, 355 km southwest of the state capitals Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad, it is the 7th largest city in the state.
Literally translated, Junagadh means "Old Fort". A different etymology derives the name from "Yonagadh" (literally, "City of the Yona (Greeks)", referring to the ancient inhabitants of the city under the Indo-Greek Kingdom). It is also known as "Sorath", the name of the princely state of Junagadh.
After a brief struggle between India and Pakistan, Junagadh joined India on November 9, 1947. It was a part of Saurashtra state and later Bombay state. In 1960, in consequence of the Maha Gujarat movement, it became part of the newly formed Gujarat state.
An early structure, Uparkot Fort, is located on a plateau in the middle of town. It was originally built in 319 BCE during the Mauryan dynasty by Chandragupta. The fort remained in use until the 6th century, when it was abandoned for about 300 years, then rediscovered by the Chudasama ruler Graharipu in 976 CE.The fort was subsequently besieged 16 times over an 1000-year period. One unsuccessful siege lasted twelve years.
Within 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) of Uparkot Fort is an inscription with fourteen Edicts of Ashoka on a large boulder. The inscriptions are in Brahmi script in a language similar to Pali and date from 250 BCE. On the same rock there is a later inscription in Sanskrit, which was added around 150 CE by Mahakshatrap Rudradaman I, the Saka (Scythian) ruler of Malwa, and a member of the Western Kshatrapas dynasty,[6] and which has been described as "the earliest known Sanskrit inscription of any extent". Another inscription dates from about 450 CE and refers to Skandagupta, the last Gupta emperor. Old rock-cut Buddhist caves in this area, dating from well before 500 CE, have stone carvings and floral work. There are also the Khapra Kodia Caves north of the fort, and the Bava Pyara Caves south of the fort. The Bava Pyara caves contain artworks of both Buddhism and Jainism.
