New guidelines for vaccination:  Senior citizens and the disabled should be vaccinated near home so that they do not have to travel far.

The government has announced new guidelines for vaccination, which have been made available to senior citizens and the disabled. The Expert Group for Covid Vaccination (NEGVAC) had sent a recommendation to the Center that people over the age of 60, sick and disabled should be vaccinated near their homes so that they do not have to travel far. The government has approved the recommendation.

According to the recommendation, if a person above 60 years of age has been vaccinated and no dose has been administered, they should be vaccinated near their home. In addition, people who are bedridden due to illness or those who are unable to walk due to disability will also be vaccinated near their homes. The Center has sent these guidelines to all the states.

At present, senior citizens in the country have to go to the vaccination center and get vaccinated just like the general public.

No separate centers have been set up for the disabled to be vaccinated. They have to go to the vaccination center and wait like everyone else.

How will 60+ and the disabled be vaccinated

The guidelines state that such people should also be vaccinated at a non-health facility near their home. These centers can be set up in community areas, panchayat houses, schools and old age homes.
The District Task Force and the Rural Task Force identify the Near to Home Covid Vaccination Centers (NHCVC) locations in terms of the population of such people. Doing so could accomplish the goal of vaccinating the elderly and the disabled.
The vaccine is minimally wasted during this vaccination drive. At the same time, pre-existing vaccinations at health centers and places like Covid Vaccine Centers (CVCs) will not be affected.
NHCVC is linked to CVC. The CVC in-charge will be responsible for facilitating covid vaccines, resources and manpower.
NHCVC location is determined in advance by the community group. All of these locations should be registered as NHCVC on the Covin app.
The District Task Force and the Rural Task Force NHCVC will be responsible for planning and making the vaccination a success. Both of these forces can modify the plan according to space and need.
