The Sabarmati Riverfront, Ahmedabad's flagship, offers citizens a unique way to get around. At present, the riverfront is 11.5 km long on both sides of the river. Now the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has decided to further develop the riverfront by extending it on both sides. Work on the project will begin in phases in about two years. Apart from Naroda, Sardarnagar, Hansol and Shahibaug in the eastern region, people from Sabarmati, Motera and Chandkheda in the west will also be able to enjoy the riverfront. Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Ltd. Phase-2 will be constructed at a cost of Rs 850 crore.
Tender issued for Riverfront Phase-2 to be developed up to Indira Bridge
Sabarmati Riverfront General Manager (Technical) Jagdish Patel in a conversation with DivyaBhaskar said that both the banks would be developed from Shahibaug Dafnala to Indira Bridge. For this, tenders for different operations have been issued. Currently, the riverfront is being developed at Dafnala Torrent Power Station in the east and Dharmanagar in the west, while Phase-II will be developed on both sides of the river up to Indira Bridge. A children's play area, open gym area as well as other facilities will be set up on both the riverfront. Its concept planning and design work has been completed in Riverfront Phase-2.

. Indirabridge is about 11.5 km from both the shores. It has been decided to extend the project under Phase-II, so that the total length on both sides is now 34 km. Will happen. Stepping promenades on both sides of the river, road network, active green parks and residential and commercial type development works will be included.
To make Riverfront Phase-2 more green, it will have facilities like planting green trees at different levels on both the banks of the river, children's play area, food plaza, art and culture, health as well as sinting arrangements at different levels for the people.

The water level in the river will be maintained from the
barrage-cum-bridge. The construction of the barrage-cum-bridge will maintain the water level in the river in the Phase-2 area of the riverfront. Due to this water can be stored for Ahmedabad city for 10 to 15 days in case of emergency and during maintenance of Narmada canal.
This will also raise the groundwater level in the surrounding areas over time. Due to this barrage-cum-bridge, areas like Sabarmati, Chandkheda, Motera of the city will get direct connectivity with Hansol area and airport.
The project will be parallel to the Sabarmati River from Ambedkar Bridge to Indira Bridge.
The traffic load on the roads on both sides of the river will be lightened. The
barrage-cum-bridge on the riverfront phase-2 will alleviate the traffic problem in the areas on both sides of the river.

The use of these roads for Maninagar, Narol to Gandhinagar, North Gujarat and Ring Road will alleviate the traffic problem and reduce pollution issues.

For Sabarmati Riverfront Project Phase-2, about 72 hectares of land in four villages of Ahmedabad district has been acquired in advance. Proceedings are underway to acquire about 20 hectares of land between the rivers of two villages in Gandhinagar district. The Ahmedabad Cantonment Board has agreed to acquire about 13 hectares of land.
