Because, from January 1, it has become mandatory to install FASTag on all vehicles. Toll on the highway will now be levied through Fastag. Then no cash will be taken from anyone on the toll. At present 80 per cent of the vehicles on the highway are charged through vehicle fastag. The central government's goal is to increase toll collection. At present, the daily revenue from tolls is Rs 93 crore, which the government will increase to Rs 100 crore.

What is FASTag?
FASTag is a tag and sticker affixed to the front of a car. So the scanner at the toll plaza on the highway scans the device with the radio frequency identification (RFID) technique from the sticker on the vehicle and the money is recovered from their bank account depending on the location. This is very convenient. There is no need to stop the vehicle at the toll through it. If Fastag is not linked to a prepaid account or debit / credit card, you will need to recharge it.

What is Fastag?
Fastag is an electronic toll collection system in the form of a sticker. You have to attach it to the windshield of your car or vehicle. This fastag works according to Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. Each fastag is associated with the registration of the respective vehicle. After installing it, you do not have to stop at the toll plaza and pay the toll fee in cash.
How does this work?
As you pass the toll plaza, the fastag reader at the toll plaza will read the barcode of your fastag. The toll fee will then be deducted from your bank account. There will be no long queues of vehicles at the toll plaza once it is turned on. This fastag is not currently for two-wheelers. RFID is created by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

Where can you buy Fastag? You can buy Fastag from any toll plaza in the country. You can also buy it from Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, SBI, Kotak Bank branches. You can also buy it from online platforms like Paytm, Amazon, Google Pay. Most of them also offer different types of offers including discounts. You need to have ID proof and vehicle registration document when buying Fastag.
You can know the status of your fastag from My Fastag app
. Sometimes vehicles without fastags even get stuck in the fastag lane, so you can see all the information related to it on the UPI app called My Fastag.
It has been prepared by National Highway Management Company Limited. This app also reveals the status of your car's fastag. You can also make payments by linking your Fastag account to this app. You can link your bank account with this app if you wish. This will deduct the toll tax from your account whenever you pass through a toll plaza.
How much will Fastag get and how long will it be valid?
The price of a fastag is determined by two things. First what is your car and second where are you buying it from. The price will also change according to the banks' offer. The change in price is also determined by the amount of money charged by the bank from which you take the fastag as an issue fee and security deposit. However, according to officials, the one-time fee is Rs 200. The reissue fee is Rs 100 and the refundable security deposit is Rs 200. Once purchased, the Fastag sticker will be valid for five years. Banks like SBI offer fastags of unlimited validity, such as if you buy a fastag for a car from Paytm, you will have to spend Rs 500 for it.
If you want to get fastag from the bank, bring this document. To get
fastag from the bank, you will need KYC document, RC of the vehicle, passport size photo, PAN card, address and ID proof. If you wish, you can submit your license, ID and address as proof. 100% fastag will save Rs 12,000 crore every year
According to a study, 100% toll collection at toll plazas will save about Rs 12,000 crore a year. The study was conducted in 2019 by Noida-based start-up Bullseye Technology. It said 35% of the money is only for petrol-diesel savings, which are spent on vehicles while waiting at the toll plaza. The remaining 55% will be saved due to the time saved. In addition, waiting at the toll plaza will save about 10% of the cost of carbon emissions.
