Ford and Google announced a six-year strategic partnership. Under this, Google's Android operating system will be installed in the infotainment screens of trucks including Ford and Lincoln cars from the year 2023. The Android operating system will allow drivers to use Google Maps for in-vehicle navigation and Google Voice Assistant without an Android phone. All vehicles in the Ford portfolio have been coming with the company's sync system since 2007. However, it is unclear at this time whether Ford will continue to use the sync name on this new system.

Vehicles to get in-car version of Google Play Store
From the year 2023, Ford Car will start introducing in-car version of Google Play Store to download apps for things like music, audiobook and podcast. Google will be Ford's service provider for cloud data storage, Ford and Google officials said. Ford will also use Google's official intelligence and data analytics capabilities to improve things like customer service, manufacturing and marketing.
As part of their partnership, Ford and the Google team will work together to form a group called Upshift, which can work with companies in new ways. For example, this team will work on things like improving the online car shopping experience using customer data. At present, the companies have not disclosed the financial terms of the partnership.
Like the phone, the car will get software updates.
Newer models such as the Ford Mustang Mac-E and the redesigned F-150 will have the same over-the-air software update download as the smartphone. Customers do not have to go to the dealership for software upgrades. The same feature will also be available for vehicles with the new Android Auto operating system.

General Motors (GM) has recently announced a similar arrangement with Microsoft. In which Microsoft will provide cloud storage for GM and Cruise (GM's autonomous car company). However, Google has not said whether Google's cloud computing system will be used for autonomous vehicles like the GM and Microsoft deals.
