Corona vaccine is made in a plant fire: Fire breaks out on two floors of Pune's Serum Institute lab, where BCG vaccine is made





A fire broke out at Terminal Gate-1 of SSI's new building in Pune



A huge fire broke out on the fourth and fifth floors of Terminal 1 of the Serum Institute of India in Pune. Supposedly, the BCG vaccine is developed in this lab to prevent TB. No casualties were reported at the time. A vehicle of 10 firefighters has reached the spot. Four employees have been evacuated from the building. The fire broke out near Terminal Gate-1 in the SSI building in Pune. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Millions of doses of vaccine have been prepared and kept here.

A fire has broken out at the new Serum Institute of India plant in Manjari, Pune. Corona vaccine Covishield is mass-produced at the Rs 300 crore plant. The plant was inaugurated by Union Health Minister Dr Harshvardhan last year, though vaccine production has not yet started at the plant.

7 to 8 vehicles are present at the scene and they are trying to extinguish the fire. The fire has not yet been contained. The cause of the fire and the number of people trapped in the terminal are yet to be ascertained. Production of Kovishield at this five-storey plant was to begin soon.

Why is the Serum Institute special?
So far, SSI has sold 1.5 billion doses. This is also a kind of record. According to these statistics, 60% of the world's children have been vaccinated with a single serum vaccine. The World Health Organization (WHO) accredited Serum Institute vaccine is supplied to 170 countries.
