The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against Cambridge Analytica for allegedly stealing data of Indian Facebook users. The CBI has also initiated proceedings against Global Science Research, another UK company, in the case. The data theft involved the data of 5.62 lakh Indian users. In this regard, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the Facebook-Cambridge Analytica data theft case will be investigated by the CBI.

On April 3, 2018, the company said that it did not have any Facebook data of Indians. In contrast, Facebook told the Government of India on April 5, 2018 that Cambridge Analytica had access to the Facebook data of about 5,62,455 Indians through an installed app. The CBI has now launched an investigation into the case.
