With the intention of doing something in Corona after retiring as a chemical engineer, Girish Dhulia and his brother Rajesh Dhulia have successfully started strawberry cultivation in the cold region of Gondal district of Saurashtra with scorching heat and water scarcity with a production of 50 kg per day.
There is a saying that if you have a mind, go to Malwa. But the biggest challenge in growing strawberries in cold regions is to keep the temperature as low as 20-30 degrees and control the TDS in the water. For this he adopted the commercial RO system and did mulching.
Plants were brought from Mahabaleshwar and planted. The drip irrigation system continuously watered the strawberry crop and kept the temperature cool. Strawberries produced in Gondal fetch Rs. Both the farmer sons of Gondal are trying to earn 1.25 kg of strawberries per plant by adopting innovation with the spirit of doing something while sitting in Corona after retiring from the job. Success is sure to come with the weather.

Varieties like Winter Start, Winter Down, Eliot, Sweet Sensation are currently being planted. The cost of planting strawberries is Rs 7 lakh per acre.
