STUDENTS SHOULD KNOW HOW TO MARKET THEMSELVES, CHETAN BHAGAT

Students should know how to market themselves, Chetan Bhagat

KOLKATA:-  Popular author Chetan Bhagat feels scoring high percentage in board examinations is not enough, students should also know how to market themselves.

The author was speaking at a session on the 'Impact of Digital Co-creation in Business Revolution' organised by an engineering college here yesterday.

"Can the guy who scores good marks but cannot communicate get a job?" the 'Five Point Someone' writer asked.

Advising the students that they should know how to market themselves, he said, "Americans are good at marketing, they are the best at marketing."

Sharing his insights on education, the author of many best-sellers such as 'The 3 Mistakes of My Life' and '2 States' said, there is a need to change the present education system to enable the students connect their knowledge with real life.

Students must have read in history books that Vasco Da Gama came to India in 1498, Bhagat said.

"Questions came in examinations, we answered and got marks. But then what? It was never taught in schools how Vasco Da Gama established links with the local people in that age of zero network connectivity," he said.

"Nor did we try to know as we were just happy to get those 2 marks for the answer that Vasco Da Gama had arrived in India in 1498," he said.

The author, also a motivational speaker, said he believes that hard work can take people to places.

If the students want success, they should realise that their approach to life should be "Each pain I weather will pave my path (for success)," he said.

Bhagat told the audience, "If you really want to be successful, don't think life is without struggle."

Bhagat, who has also penned scripts for several bollywood films, said, "Just think about Salman Khan who does two hour workout daily to look and stay fit. Considering that he can take it easy after attaining so much success and fame, it is inspiring to see how he struggles and works hard."

The writer of several paperbacks including 'One Night at the Call Centre' called upon the young generation to study, work and then have fun at spare time.

An IIT-Delhi and IIM-Ahmedabad alumnus, Bhagat had a high-profile banking job for 11 years. He quit his investment banking career in 2009, to focus on writing.

GUJARAT NA 15,99,681 KARMCHARI NU SHOSAN..PAGAR MA GUJARAT 11 MA KRAME
A mutual fund company is an investment company that receives money from investors for the sole purpose to invest in stocks, bonds, and other securities for the benefit of the investors. A mutual fund is the portfolio of stocks, bonds, or other securities that generate profits for the investor, or shareholder of the mutual fund. A mutual fund allows an investor with less money to diversify his holdings for greater safety and to benefit from the expertise of professional fund managers. Mutual funds are generally safer, but less profitable, than stocks, and riskier, but more profitable than bonds or bank accounts, although its profit-risk profile can vary widely, depending on the fund's investment objective. Most mutual funds are open-end funds, which sells new shares continuously or buys them back from the shareholder (redeems them), dealing directly with the investor (no-load funds) or through broker-dealers, who receive the sales load of a buy or sell order. The purchase price is the net asset value (NAV) at the end of the trading day, which is the total assets of the fund minus its liabilities divided by the number of shares outstanding for that day

CBSC CLASS 12 ENGLISH PAPER: 7 TIPS FROM BOARD EXAMINER TO HELP YOU EASILY SCORE OVER 90

CBSC Class 12 English Paper: 7 Tips From Board Examiner To Help You Easily Score Over 90

BSE Boards 2018 is just around the corner and the English Core paper is scheduled to be held on March 5. English in class 12 is a breather exam compared to the humungous syllabus in almost all other subjects for each stream. This is why many students completely ignore this paper, leaving it for the last moment.

Now, if you are good in basic grammar and don't have any proper in understanding the concept while reading through the texts, then scoring good marks in the Class 12 English paper will not be an insurmountable task.

However, if you want to score above 90, you will need to make sure you are not making the common mistake most students make which can make your aggregate percentage drop even after scoring well on PCM (if you are from Science stream).

India Today Education spoke to senior English teacher Suvalakshmi Bhattacharya, with 23 years of teaching experience and 21 years of experience as Board Examiner, about a few tips and tricks that students should definitely know to maximize their marks.

HERE ARE A FEW CRUCIAL TIPS FROM THE BOARD EXAMINER THAT WILL HELP YOU SCORE OVER 90 IN YOUR ENGLISH PAPER:

1
Plan before leaving home which section (A/B/C) you are going to attempt first in the exam and how much time you will allow to each section.

2
Do not exceed the word limit. Unnecessarily long answers will NOT FETCH you more marks. On the other hand, it will cut into your limited time.

3
Underline the value points - important words and phrases - while writing the answer itself as you might not have time later on to go back and read through line by line again.

4
Do not leave out any question. If you are not sure of the answer, leave some space according to the allotted marks and come back to it later on. Do NOT leave it out.

5
For section B Writing section, the following points must be noted: (a) Formats must be followed as prescribed by CBSE (b) Break your text into paragraphs wherever needed - in letters, articles, reports, debates and speeches (c) Select the question to answer wisely when you have options in a question (d) Be careful when you are writing the dates in letters (e) In Note Making, the title, subheadings and the abbreviations must be written properly to score marks (f) You need a minimum of four abbreviations in Note Making, for which 1 mark is allotted, but don't write a full page of abbreviations

6
For section C Literature section, the following points must be noted: (a) Each 3-mark question must have at least two value points (b) Each 6-mark question must have at least four value points (c) 'The Invisible Man' MUST be prepared and will have two questions based on it -- one character based question and one plot-based question

7
Aim to complete your paper in 2 hours 45 minutes so that you have 15 minutes to revise your answers.

DU TEACHERS ASSOCIATION ON 2-DAY STRIKE OVER APPOINTMENT OF 126 ASSISTANT PROFESSORS

DU Teachers Association on 2-day strike over appointment of 126 assistant professors

Hundreds of Delhi University (DU) teachers went on a two-day strike on Tuesday over an alleged scam in the recent appointment of 126 candidates to the post of assistant professors in varsity's law faculty. The teachers claimed that the appointments are in gross violation of University Grants Commission's (UGC) guidelines and the university bye-laws as it failed to absorb many long-serving ad-hoc teachers.
During the strike, called by DU Teachers Association (DUTA), the teachers took out a march to the Vice-Chancellor's office followed by a public meeting at the varsity's arts faculty. "The administration has failed to come up with an objective criteria for marking in the 50:30:20 weightage formula (as required by UGC Regulations) and has left the whole marking process to the discretion of selection committees, thus making a mockery of the weightage system," said DUTA president, Rajib Ray.
"It has not even shared the full minutes of selection committees, with the mark sheets of the selected candidates, while seeking statutory approval for the appointments in the Executive Council," Ray added.
The interviews for the 126 advertised posts were held from July to September, last year. The results were announced in the Executive Council (EC) meeting held on January 30. Of the 126 selected names, only 39 are of ad-hoc teachers. However, 80 ad-hocs were working in both the centers of law faculty until then.
"I completed my education from the law faculty and then taught there for more than 15 years as an ad-hoc. I was thrown out at the age of 50. Where will I go now?" asked Kiran Bala, who used to teach the LLB students in all three years.
Meanwhile, DUTA also announced to observe a complete bandh on Wednesday against the negative recommendations of the Pay Revision Notification and the 70-30 sharing-arrangement on costs that the UGC has proposed.
"There is palpable anger in the teaching community with the realisation that the government is adamant on drastic cost-cutting and shifting to a loan-based expansion of educational infrastructure. Thousands of teachers are stuck without any promotions and pensions. The Pay Revision notification has ignored the suffering of these sections," said Vivek Chaudhary, Secretary, DUTA.

SHARP FALL IN CHEATING CASES ON FIRST DAY OF UP BOARD EXAMS

Sharp Fall In Cheating Cases On First Day Of Up Board Exams
LUCKNOW:- Kept under the 'sensitive' zone for cheating, no case of copying was reported from UP's Ballia district on first day of UP board examinations. In 2017, maximum of 24 cases of cheating were reported alone from Ballia. In fact, UP Secondary Education Board, which conducts the UP class X and XII board examinations received only 16 complaints of cheating by students, as against 110 received last year. Highest of three complaints came from Mathura, followed by two cases, each from Kannauj and Pratapgarh.

Decoy team set up by Special Task Force of UP police managed to crackdown on Bal Bharti Inter College, which facilitated mass copying. According to additional SP, Allahabad unit Praveen Chauhan, some persons were found dictating answers to the examinees in a hall, where class XII students were appearing for general Hindi exam. School principal Shiv Prasad, invigilator Anil Tiwari and staff members Shiv Shankar Mishra were placed under arrest, and the cheating material was seized.

Figures released by UPSEB showed that three FIRs were lodged. In Chandauli, Sudhir Kumar Singh, school manager of Rama Shankar Inter College and a 'fake' invigilator, 22-year-old Surendra Pratap were sent behind bars for facilitating mass copying. Here, a class X girl was rusticated for using unfair means. In Pratapgarh, a case was registered against a student caught impesonating. In Gorakhpur, centre superintendent of Gram Sthali Balika Inter College was changed on doubts of mass copying.

Overall, 1.80 lakh examinees skipped the exam. In class X, 53,100 candidates out of 9,77,854 who registered, remained absent. Class X students had Home Science in the first shift. In class XII, 1,27,726 examinees dropped out of the exam. Class XII students had Hindi in the morning shift and general Hindi in the afternoon shift. While 9,63,510 candidates had registered for Hindi, the figure for general Hindi was 18,98,301.

Meanwhile, deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma carried out surprise inspection of eight examination centres in Jaunpur. The visit came following recent reports of arrest of a book store owner for printing fake answer sheets of UP board exams here. The centres where Sharma visited were Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Inter College, Kisan Adarsh Rastriya Inter College, Fauzdar Inter College, Bholanath Shastri Niketan Inter College, Swami Vivekanand Inter College, Balbhadra Inter College, Maharana Pratap Inter College and Government Girls Inter College.

Though nothing objectionable was found from any of these centres, Sharma reiterated that his government is committed to conduct cheating free exams.
